Further information

The Temple de la Croix d’Ouchy, built in the neoclassical style, was constructed in 1839 –1840 to a design by Henri Fraisse; it underwent major alterations in 1901–1903 and 1911–1912. The interior of the church was renovated in 1955. Until the construction of the English Church in 1877, the building was also made available to the Anglican parish. The parish of Saint-Jean, which now manages three churches (Saint -Jean-de-Cour, Montriond and La Croix d’Ouchy), no longer requires this building and can only allocate 20,000 francs a year towards its upkeep. There are plans to repurpose this church, which belongs to the City of Lausanne, as a library or a café. Demolition has also been considered. For the time being, no decision has has yet been taken.

The church stands on a site that links school activities with public spaces. Plans are being considered to use it as an after-school centre as well as a hub for Lausanne’s toy libraries. This project would provide an opportunity to carry out energy-efficiency renovations on the building and to improve the surrounding green spaces. In June 2023, the city requested a study grant of CHF 600,000.
