The architectural significance of this building has been recognised by the Monuments and Sites Department, which initiated a listing procedure in the spring of 2016. The Monuments and Sites Commission is reported to have issued a favourable preliminary opinion, but the City of Geneva and the parish are reportedly opposed to its inclusion on the list. Issues regarding the building’s maintenance and use appear unresolved, and the procedure is currently on hold. (Status 2017)

Despite the State’s interest in the cultural heritage of the Church of Sainte Jeanne-de-Chantal, it was ultimately not included in the register of protected properties. It is therefore possible to demolish the existing church and develop a project comprising 80 homes, a community centre including a new church and an open-plan communal space at the heart of the neighbourhood and its activities. At present, no planning permission has yet been granted for the new building, and the church is still being used for religious services. Work is due to begin in May 2025, will cost 40 million francs, and is scheduled for completion in late 2027 or early 2028.
