St Mark’s Church was built in 1898 opposite the Casino for the Anglican parish and English tourists. In 1984, it was handed over to the Early Christianity Parish, which is now known as the ‘Markuskirche Luzern’. The parish, which has around 250 members, belongs to the ‘Mouvement Plus Suisse’, an association of Free Churches. The church was renovated in 2017. Previously, it was divided into several areas by partition walls. Now, the main nave can once again be appreciated in its full length. The centrepiece of the renovation is a functional unit (known as the ‘meeting island’), integrated between the nave and the foyer. This multifunctional space houses the staircase leading to the multi-purpose gallery, a kitchen with a counter, and all technical installations, including the interpretation booths. The refurbished foyer is also a major asset. Thanks to the soundproof partition between the nave, the foyer and the gallery, these three spaces (gallery, foyer and nave) can be used simultaneously for different purposes.
