The small Reformed church in Melide dates from 1931. As services were no longer held there and due to the high maintenance costs, the Evangelical Reformed parish of Sottoceneri decided in 2012 to sell the church to the Russian Orthodox Church in Ticino. The price was 320,000 francs. The proceeds from the sale were allocated to the renovation of the Reformed church in Lugano. According to Marc Zindel, chairman of the parish, there was no question of using the church in Melide as accommodation or as a bar.
